Law Summary

This EU regulation establishes a framework empowering national authorities to investigate goods suspected of being made with forced labour. If substantiated through investigation (considering supply chain information), authorities can order the withdrawal of these products from the EU market and prohibit their export, targeting the goods themselves.

Law Obligation

Prohibition to place or make available on the EU market products that are made with forced labour or to export such products. System of penalties for businesses that violate the prohibition on products made with forced labour. Establishment of a database of forced labour risk areas or products.  No reversal of the burden of proof, meaning it will be the responsibility of the competent authority to ask precise questions to the economic operator and find the link to Forced Labour.
